Volunteerism

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is proud of our tradition of community support which includes everything from sponsoring projects related to BCBSNM health initiatives to taking part in food drives and fundraisers. Our employees contribute time, energy, and an ongoing commitment to give back to our communities. We partner with community organizations and their programs that impact the long-term health and wellness of New Mexicans, such as
Daffodil Days, benefiting hospice programs in Albuquerque; Feria De Salud, providing a day of free health to at risk New Mexicans; and Day of the Tread, helping Casa Esparanza provide housing and support to families facing cancer.

In 2013, our employees volunteered more than 3,700 hours. Additionally, through BCBSNM’s matching dollars program, for every verified volunteer hour that a BCBSNM employee spends with a qualified nonprofit organization, the organization receives $20 per hour, up to $2,000 annually. In 2013, 18 community partners received more than $18,000 in matching dollars. Community partners benefitting from this program include Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics of New Mexico, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
